It's Monday, June 8th. Good morning. Welcome back from the weekend. Sunny and close to 30 this afternoon with humidity. Right now it's 14, the dollar trading 71.73 cents US. I'm Stacey Englehart. After just one member of Quebec's parliament voiced opposition, the government's plan to ban energy drinks for those under 16. is most likely going to happen. The Conservatives want hearings into the ban and in return said the party would allow it to go through. The bill would need unanimous consent to be passed into law before the end of the session Friday. Montreal police investigating after two vehicles were apparently set on fire in Riviere des Prairie. Police in the Montreal Fire Department received several 911 calls at about 1230 Sunday morning. They say a sedan and a truck were fully engulfed when police arrived. Suspects were seen approaching the vehicles and setting them on fire and taking off. No injuries were reported. Montreal firefighters, meanwhile, are growing concerned about the number of incidents. According to 2025 Stats, they were called to a record 140,406 incidents. The union representing the workers said the growing number of calls is taking a serious toll on members' health. Now among the concerns, scientific evidence connecting firefighting and cancer continues to grow. Over the past 15 years, 350 firefighter cancers were described as work related. During that same period, 102 firefighters died. A 23 year old was arrested after Quebec police say he reached 217 kilometers an hour in a 70 zone and fled from police in Montreal Saturday morning. Police said they spotted a car without license plates on Highway 15, tried to pull the car over. The suspect was eventually located in a parking lot and was apprehended. His vehicle was impounded for a month, his driver's license suspended for seven days. He could face several additional charges including flight from police and assault with a weapon.
