A baby was rushed to hospital last night after a vehicle struck a stroller in Montreal's Ville-Saint-Laurent borough. Police say they were called just before 8 p.m. to the intersection of Montpellier Boulevard and Muir Street. Officers found a 20-month-old child with serious upper-body injuries. The child was conscious and breathing when taken to hospital.
Police in Quebec have released the results of a weekend crackdown on the province's waterways. Three people were arrested and more than 50 tickets were issued. Several police forces, including Montreal Police, inspected more than 600 watercraft on August 1st and 2nd as part of a coordinated boating safety campaign. Officers targeted offences such as failing to carry required safety equipment, impaired operation, and reckless or careless boating.
Quebec's wildfire protection agency says wildfire activity was above average in July, largely due to lightning strikes. The province recorded 90 wildfires affecting more than 16 hectares, compared with the July average of about 66 fires. About 41 percent were caused by lightning, while the remainder were linked to improperly extinguished campfires, forestry and industrial operations, smoking materials, electrical wires, and waste burning. Most of the fires occurred in northern Quebec.
Statistics Canada is set to release its July Labour Force Survey this morning. A Reuters poll of economists predicts about 15,000 jobs were added last month.

At the National Bank Open, Ottawa's Gabriela Dabrowski and her Russian partner were eliminated from the women's doubles tournament. Leylah Fernandez and her sister Bianca also lost their doubles match. In women's singles, Fernandez will face reigning French Open champion Mirra Andreeva.
Canada's hopes in the men's tournament in Montreal have been hit by injuries. Félix Auger-Aliassime withdrew with a sore back, while Gabriel Diallo and Denis Shapovalov also retired with injuries.
