A baby was rushed to hospital last night after a car struck a stroller in Ville Saint-Laurent. Montreal police say they were called before 8 p.m. to the intersection of Montpellier and Muir. When officers arrived, they found a 20-month-old child with serious upper-body injuries. The child was conscious and breathing while being taken to hospital.
Police in Quebec have released the results of a weekend crackdown on the province's waterways. Three people were arrested and more than 50 tickets were handed out. Several Quebec police forces, including Montreal, checked over 600 watercraft on August 1st and 2nd as part of a coordinated boating safety operation. Officers were looking for offences including failing to carry mandatory safety equipment, operating a vessel while impaired by alcohol or drugs, and reckless or careless operation.
Quebec's wildfire protection agency says it saw above-average activity last month, mostly due to lightning strikes. The agency reported 90 wildfires in July affecting more than 16 hectares. The average for July is about 66 wildfires. About 41 percent of the fires were caused by lightning, while others were linked to improperly extinguished campfires, forestry and industrial operations, smoking-related items, electrical wires, and waste burning. The July wildfires were concentrated mainly in northern Quebec.
Statistics Canada is set to release its latest Labour Force Survey for July. A Reuters poll of economists predicts about 15,000 jobs were added last month. The numbers are due out this morning.

The Blue Jays lost 3–2 in 11 innings to Chicago in a makeup game. They begin a weekend road series tonight in Philadelphia.
At the National Bank Open, another Canadian is out of women's doubles. Ottawa's Gabriela Dabrowski and her Russian partner were eliminated. Leylah Fernandez teamed up with her sister Bianca, but they also lost their doubles match. In women's singles, Fernandez will face reigning French Open champion Mirra Andreeva.
Canada's men's hopes in Montreal have been hurt by injuries. Félix Auger-Aliassime withdrew with a sore back, while Gabriel Diallo and Denis Shapovalov both retired with injuries.
