The Quebec Liberal Party has named an ethics officer to supervise the upcoming leadership race. after allegations of wrongdoing sunk the previous leader. The party said the role will be filled by Julien Marisset, a lawyer with experience in the province's election legislation. Pablo Rodriguez spent just over six months as Liberal leader before he stepped down amid allegations of vote buying and reimbursement donations during his campaign. He has maintained he did nothing wrong. The nine-week race to replace him officially begins January 12th. Candidates need 750 50 signatures from party members and they have to pay a deposit of $30,000. A couple of shop owners in Montreal say a thief stole from their cash registers. According to reports, the business owners in the Plateau Mont-Royal borough said it happened Boxing Day while staff were distracted. Police are asking nearby businesses to be vigilant. A Montreal man expected to see his charges upgraded after a woman pushed off a balcony in Montreal last week died yesterday morning. Police were called to the Mercier Hoschlager Maisonneuve borough at about 8.15 in the morning Thursday. They found the victim on the ground. A 31-year-old was arrested at the scene. He was charged with aggravated assault on Friday. And leaders of some 30 different countries, including Prime Minister Kearney, are set to meet in Paris today to talk about security guarantees surrounding the end of Russia's war with Ukraine. Just yesterday, Ukraine's president named former Deputy Prime Minister Krystia Freeland as an economic advisor. She announced yesterday that she was stepping down as the Prime Minister's special representative for the reconstruction of Ukraine and will also leave parliament in the coming weeks.
