The dollar 72.27 cents U.S. I'm Stacey Englehart. Several homes on Montreal's South Shore had to be evacuated after a major fire yesterday afternoon. According to the Longueil Fire Department, they were called to a wooded area near the Premnade Saint Bruno shopping centre at about four. Three homes were damaged by fire. Several others were evacuated as a precaution. While fuel prices peaking near the $2 a liter mark, some school bus drivers are speaking out. According to the owner of Autobus Beaconsville and Transport Scalaire Elite, 1/4 of his fleet is now electric, but most of his buses still require diesel fuel, which has jumped about 40% in three weeks. He said school bus operators are on a fixed contract, so they were signed for a six-year term four years ago. School bus operators are not the only ones looking for relief from high gas prices. The association representing the province's driving schools is calling for the government to remove the cap on the cost of driving lessons. A new noise bylaw for the Plateau Mont Royal borough will begin May 4th. The city of Montreal announced the new law will limit police involvement with noise complaints and introduce a spectral emergence system for monitoring noise thresholds and overhaul the complaints and resolution systems. The city said police may be called to intervene where it has reasonable grounds to believe a person's peace is being disturbed by noise deemed disruptive or excessive. For venues, however, it's up to the borough teams to handle the complaints and police will not be intervening. And there's a new Canadian social media website that proclaims its goal is to provide Canadians a place to communicate and connect without the influence of big tech algorithms. The co-founder of NorthSocial.ca, Colin Schmidt, said the biggest challenge is building a viable user base. He said the site has already gained thousands of users in the last two months, saying an app is on the way and plans are underway to add groups, a built-in marketplace, and gaming features.
