Ottawa's temporary suspension of some fuel taxes kicks in today. Canadians are expected to see 10 cents a litre saving on regular gas and 4 cents off diesel. The Prime Minister announced last week a pause on fuel excise taxes to Labor Day. The Conservatives argue it isn't enough to meet rising energy costs, calling for a pause till the end of the year as well as an end to clean fuel standards and the industrial carbon tax. Rising water levels are becoming a concern in many regions, including Montreal. Gatineau facing spring flooding that's already put 164 homes at risk and forced the closure of 41 streets along the Ottawa River. Officials expect water levels to peak soon, but warn flood risks could persist for weeks with more rain in the forecast. A double shooting sparked by a street fight sent two men to hospital early yesterday morning in the Ville-Marie borough. Gunshots erupted before 2 A.m. after an altercation involving several individuals. Police say two people, ages 26 and 38, had non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. The suspects fled on foot and remain at large. Patients at Montreal's Lakeshore General Hospital are facing the longest waits in Quebec. According to new data from Cente Quebec, there's an average stay of nearly 31 hours on a stretcher, almost double the provincial average. Officials point to an aging population noting nearly half of all visitors are over 75. While the health authority said new geriatric teams are approving efficiency, advocates argue the surge proves the government is failing to provide enough home care. And StatsCan set to report on inflation data for March this morning. A Reuters poll of economists expect the rate to accelerate to 2.5 from 1.8% in February. Light 1067 sports. NHL playoffs round one, Montreal edge Tampa Bay 4-3 in overtime. They take a 1-0 series lead and are in Tampa Bay for game two tomorrow at 7. Game 3 returns to Montreal Friday. Elsewhere yesterday, Colorado beat LA, Buffalo beat Boston, Vegas over Utah all have 1-0 leads. and NBA playoffs round one. The Raptors, who lost game one to Cleveland this weekend, are in Cleveland tonight at 7. They're back home to face the Cavs for game three Thursday.
