A teen is in hospital fighting for her life after the vehicle she was traveling in was involved in a collision in Montreal's South Shore yesterday. Police said the driver lost control, struck a lamppost before crashing into a median on Highway 20. All 3 occupants of the SUV were sent to hospital. Quebec's independent police watchdog launched an investigation after a man was killed during an intervention in Saint-Raphael. The incident occurred Saturday. Officers were called about a man with a firearm. The man left a home and was shot by police. He later died in hospital. New inmate rules at a Montreal jail has resulted in a revolt. According to reports, a riot broke out earlier this week at the Bordeaux jail because of new rules that required inmates to return to their cells by 9, an hour earlier than before. According to reports, they decided to stage a non-violent sit-in and more guards were called in. The riot lasted several hours with correctional officers deploying tear gas and flash bangs. The public safety minister made the decision to impose a curfew to allow correctional officers to avoid mandatory overtime. And there was some Canadian content among the winners at the Oscars last night. Montreal filmmakers Chris Lavis and Maycek Shcherbovsky won Best Animated Short for The Girl Who Cried Pearls. And with the Paralympics wrapping up this weekend in Italy, Canada's Para ice hockey team settled for silver, losing to the U.S. yesterday.
