Two Air Canada pilots were killed when their plane crashed into a rescue vehicle on a runway at New York's LaGuardia Airport as it was landing before midnight after a flight from Montreal. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey said 41 people were taken to hospital. All but nine have been released. Some of the injured are in serious condition. The airport will stay closed until at least this afternoon. Tensions flared Saturday in Quebec City as Christine Frechette and Bernard Drainville faced off in the first debate to succeed Premier Francois Legault as leader of the Coalition of Near Quebec. The proposed third-link bridge connecting Quebec and Les Vie quickly moved to the center of the clash. Drainville and Frechette are the only two candidates vying for the top role. It opened up when Legault announced in January he was stepping down as leader. A challenge of Quebec's secularism law, known as Bill 21, will be heard at the Supreme Court of Canada starting today, with the notwithstanding clause at the heart of the argument. The case stems from a law passed in June 2019. The Quebec government, led by Legault, banned certain public sector workers from wearing religious symbols on the job. The Coalition of Near Quebec government preemptively invoked the notwithstanding clause to shield the law for most court challenges. Legal experts say the arguments will center on the criteria for suspending the rights. Canadians are planning to sail to Gaza again as part of a flotilla that aims to deliver aid to Palestinians. Months after six Canadians were detained last fall for attempting to do the same mission. A spokesperson for the flotillas Canadian arm said over 100 boats and 3,000 participants will depart for Gaza April 12th. Light 1067 sports NHL last night a full slate of games. Calgary beat Tampa Bay 4-3 in overtime. Winnipeg edged the Rangers 3-2 in a shootout. Those were the only Canadian teams on the ice. Montreal coming off a win over the Islanders this weekend, hosts the Hurricanes tomorrow at 7. PWHL Montreal lost to Ottawa 2-1. Major League Soccer yesterday, CF Montreal lost to Cincinnati 4-3.
