Right now it's 16, the dollar 73.42 cents U.S. I'm Stacey Englehart. A Quebec judge has cleared the way for a high-risk offender to appeal his sentence in the horrific Laval daycare bus crash. The man was found not criminally responsible for the 2023 deaths of two children. and granted an extension to challenge his high-risk status. A judge previously ruled Saint-Amand remains a threat to public safety. His legal team argues his strict confinement at a psychiatric hospital stifles his rehabilitation. Lawyers have until September 4th to file their arguments with the Quebec Court of Appeal. A cruise ship with nearly 150 people on board, including four Canadians, is waiting off of Cape Verde's coast in the Atlantic after three passengers died, three more injured, in a suspected outbreak of the rare hantavirus. Now it's mostly spread through rodent feces and not human-to-human contact and happened on a polar cruise from Argentina to Antarctica. Cape Verde is not allowing the ship to dock, so everybody alive and not are still on the boat. And Montreal is ramping up its spring cleaning blitz with a crackdown on messy storefronts and sidewalks in the Ville Marie borough. City inspectors have significantly increased enforcement, issuing nearly as many fines in early 2026 as they did in all of 2024.
