As Liberal Party members are getting ready to gather in Montreal for their biannual policy convention, the Prime Minister has poached another MP. Ontario's Marilyn Gladou said she left the Conservative caucus to join the Kearney Liberals. Kearney's government has 171 seats with three by-elections Monday, including one in Tarbonne that could give him a majority. The federal Conservatives calling on the Liberals to suspend fuel tax as the conflict in the Middle East has sent gas prices soaring. They say Ottawa is raking in more revenue from higher prices and that extra money should go directly to Canadians via a break at the pumps. Earlier this week, the Prime Minister announced he was looking at various ways to try and cushion the blow. Quebec police arrested a 54-year-old massage therapist accused of sex assault. Jose Antonio Pedraza Pedraza of Vaudre d'Arion, who goes by the name Joseph, is accused of crimes from February. Several victims have been identified. Police are concerned there are more victims. CAE Inc. said it's laying off 2% of its workforce. The flight simulator company said nearly 280 positions are affected, mainly in the Montreal area where the headquarters are. The company is offering early retirement to some employees and a work-sharing program for staff on the factory floor in Montreal. In November, the CEO rolled out the first steps of a new program to cut costs. Light 1067 sports, NHL last night. Leafs couldn't get a goal in Washington's 4-0 victory. Elsewhere, Edmonton beat San Jose 5-2. Buffalo beat the Rangers 5-3. Montreal hosts Tampa Bay tonight at 7. Baseball yesterday, the Jays edged the Dodgers 4-3. They're off tonight.
