Operators of the Reseaux Express Metropolitan are scrambling for solutions as the Montreal region's newest transit network has been plagued with breakdowns since the November opening of the Du Montang branch. despite promises of a reliable service. Even the REMS operators admit they've fallen short. There has been a breakdown or slowdown of at least 20 minutes every four days on average since the new branch opened. This according to the transit lobby group Trajectoire Quebec. Thus far, it appears riders are taking the hiccups in stride as parking lots around stations remain full and trains are frequently crowded even outside of rush hour. Experts warn if these delays continue, riders will shun the new nine $1.2 billion network that could spell trouble for the future of transit in the region and even for future transit projects, as public confidence could take a hit. A Quebec woman who threw scalding water on a young child was sentenced to 27 months in prison at the Longueuil Courthouse yesterday. Quebec Court Judge Marc-Antoine Carrett agreed with a joint recommendation presented by the Crown and Defense in determining Stephanie Borrell's sentence. Borrell, 47, pleaded guilty to aggravated assault assault last September in connection with an incident that took place October 2, 2024. After the incident, the boy said he was walking home from school with friends in the city on the south shore of Montreal when they took a shortcut that passes in front of the woman's residence. The boy, who was 10 years old at the time, suffered second-degree burns to about 4% of his body, including his face, chest, and shoulder blade. A publication ban is in place to protect his identity.
