Quebec's police watchdog said two people have died after their vehicle went into the water during an attempted police interception in Coteau du Lac. The Bureau des Anquetes independent said the crash happened just after 1:00 in the morning when police spotted a vehicle whose owner was in breach of conditions. Police say officers tried to intercept the vehicle. The driver lost control, went into the water. Two people were pulled from the vehicle and declared dead. Protesters on Parliament Hill yesterday rallied against the Aalto Rail project. Farmers and rural residents who live along the proposed corridor say a rail line stretching from Quebec City through Toronto would run through their land or disrupt property access. The transport minister told reporters the government would proceed with great sensitivity and respect for farmers and will consult with communities. Construction on the first stretch is expected in three years. Online safety legislation tabled by the government yesterday is being praised by medical professionals. The head of the Canadian Medical Association said it's unacceptable for foreign-owned platforms to get rich off the expense of mental health and privacy and safety of children.
