Advanced polling stations have now closed in one Quebec riding and two Ontario ridings. for federal by-elections that could give the Prime Minister a majority government. Last month, Carney announced by-elections in the Montreal area riding of Terrebonne and two Toronto ridings set for April 13th. Two Liberal wins would bring the party to 172 seats in the House of Commons, enough for a majority. All less than a week left, Quebec's leadership race remains wide open as the coalition of near Quebec prepares to replace Francois Legault. Christine Frachette and Bernard Drainville are vying for the role, with Pollster saying neither candidate has a clear advantage. Analysts say the outcome could shape the broader political landscape, including support for the Party Quebecois and the prospect of a referendum. Just a day before a trial was said to begin, an out-of-court settlement has been reached between the Maris Brothers religious congregation and the victims of sexual abuse. According to the Canadian press, the class action lawsuit was settled out of court late Thursday evening, although it must still be approved by the court. That hearing happens May 25th.
