The dollar hovering around 72 cents U.S. I'm Stacey Englehart. Police say an 18-year-old woman is dead. A young man is accused of her murder in Montreal. Police are calling it a case of domestic violence. It marks the 8th suspected femicide in Quebec and the 6th killing in Montreal since the start of the year. Officers arrested a 20-year-old. He's currently being questioned. The founder of Just For Laughs, Gilles Barazin, has been ordered to pay more than $880,000 to eight of the nine women who'd accused him of sex assault. A Quebec judge awarded the damages yesterday following a civil trial that lasted 10 months. The women were seeking $14 million for incidents that occurred between 1980 and 2004. And it's April Fool's Day, so expect a barrage of fake announcements or social media posts. Now, no one really knows the true story of April Fool's Day, but according to some historians, it goes back to the 16th century when they decided to change the calendar. So we followed the Julian calendar. So today would have been New Year's Day. Now, apparently when the switch was made, some didn't want the new calendar, so they were ridiculed and called April Fool's. Now, according to Google, government use of ridicule, shame, and mockery to enforce rules dates back to the Roman times where public reputation was a tool for social control. Light 1067 Sports and a surprise upset, Canada will not face Italy in the FIFA World Cup in Toronto coming up in June. Bosnia and Herzegovina defeated Italy in penalties yesterday. The four-time champs failed to qualify for their third straight World Cup. NHL yesterday, Montreal beat Tampa Bay 4-1. Elsewhere, Edmonton blanks Seattle 3-0. Ottawa lost to Florida 6-3. Winnipeg edged Chicago 4-3 in overtime. Montreal is a road game against the Rangers tomorrow at 7. Baseball yesterday, the Jays beat Colorado 5-1. That home series wraps up with one more game this afternoon at 1. NBA last night, Raptors lost to Detroit 127-116. They host Sacramento at 8 tonight. And in the PWHL, Montreal hosts Vancouver tonight at 7. Light 1067 weather. We've got sunshine this afternoon, a high of seven tonight, cloudy and cold, a wind chill feeling minus 10.
