Montreal's blue-collar workers are on a 24-hour strike until tomorrow morning. Nearly 6,000 staff are off the job, which means no garbage, recycling, or compost pickup today. Essential services like snow clearing, pothole repairs, park cleanup and water main work will continue. The workers have been without a contract for more than a year, with wages still the big sticking point. Quebec police are investigating what appears to be the province's 6th feminicide in six weeks after a woman and a man were found dead in a Brassau home. Nongeri police says it's likely a feminicide followed by suicide, and officers have been called to that address before. Advocacy groups say the string of cases shows how urgent the domestic violence crisis has become, while the province points to new funding and shelters aimed at protecting victims. Montreal is officially pitching to host NATO's new Defense, Security and Resilience Bank. Montreal International says the city checks every box, with nearly 70 international organizations already based there, plus strong aerospace, tech and defense sectors. The bid has support from Quebec's premier and Montreal's mayor, though Toronto is also in the running. Ottawa has tapped BDC CEO Isabel Roudon to lead Canada's efforts. Montreal's pothole catastrophe hit a little too close to home for Mayor Soraya Martinez-Ferrata. Just hours after calling the situation unprecedented, she blew 2 tires on Notre Dame Street and had to wait nearly two hours for a tow.
